Never Satisfied - Sandy
I always seemed to have everything I wanted, BUT was never satisfied! In High School I was an officer in my sorority, on the Homecoming Queen's Court and enjoying life, but something was missing. I was heavily involved in my church yet, again, felt something lacking! I went on to Michigan State University and found myself with thousands of students from different backgrounds and religions. Which was right? During my junior year I was contacted by an acquaintance of a friend. She asked if I would be interested in taking a "National Collegiate Religious Survey", and because of my friend I said "yes". One of the questions was "In your opinion how does one become a Christian?" I struggled, but said "you'd have to read the Bible". Then, I thought, anyone could read the Bible and not be a Christian. Next, I said "you'd have to go to a Christian church". But, anyone could go to a church and not be a true Christian. Finally, I said "you'd have to see a minister or priest". Then, I wondered "how did I become a Christian?" What if I had been born Muslim, Buddhist or Jewish? After the survey she shared the "Four Spiritual Laws" with me. She talked about having a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ". She read Rev. 3:20 where Jesus said He was standing at the door of my life knocking, and if I would open the door He would come in. This was new to me! Over the next few days I had many thoughts..."Had I ever asked Jesus into my life?" I've prayed for God to help me, guide me and make me a better person, but never to come into my heart and be my personal Savior. Finally, one night I got on my knees and prayed "Lord Jesus if You are at the door of my life knocking, I'm opening that door and inviting You to come in...and I don't want some emotional experience that may come and go.” I felt a peace, but that's all! Three days later my roommate confronted me. She said I was different! I asked her to explain. She had noticed that after a professor announced a mid-term exam for the next day, I was very calm about it, which was not natural for me. Then, another professor said we would have to write a major term paper. Again she saw peace rather than frustration! I told her I had just become a Christian She asked, "What were you before this?" I explained that if Christian means Christ-in-one, I just became one three days ago. Later she asked Jesus into her heart and life and we began a Bible study in our room, where many lives were changed. A special verse for me, during this time, was from II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old condition has passed away, behold the fresh and new has come."
